What is unique about Family Upreach, Inc. (NewLife Behavior Ministries)?

Family Upreach, Inc. (DBA: NewLife Behavior Ministries) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization founded in Dallas, Texas by Dr. H. M. Motsinger in 1984. Buck Griffith has been President since July 2002. The central office in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dr. Motsinger founded NewLife Behavior International (NLBI) in 2008 to promote the NLB curriculum outside the United States. Mike Biggers currently serves as President of NLBI.

NLBM has been described as a “curriculum-based” program because we are constantly expanding the material and updating it.

The NLB curriculum is often used inside prisons, with families of offenders, ex-offenders, and any person seeking recovery from addiction. When used in prison ministries, it is most often used in

Juvenile Detention Facilities County Jails
State Prisons Federal Prisons
Addiction Recovery Centers Probation and Parole
Aftercare Programs Families Ministry

The curriculum now consists of 15 courses, including a Children’s Edition. The material helps transform negative behavior to positive. Although they are not Bible courses, the Bible is used as the common thread. The curriculum in used in more than 40 states.

What is meant by saying NLBM is curriculum-based?

First, we engage in the research design, and development of cognitive behavioral tools used by volunteer instructors in a variety of settings with youth and adults: churches, schools, jails, prisons, boot-camps, substance abuse recovery centers, and other community outreach efforts.

Secondly, we publish and distribute the curriculum to “reconcile individuals to God, their families, and society.” The best curriculum in the world accomplishes zero if not used. Users receive a CD of the course’s 13 lessons along with an individually numbered license for a small donation. The license entitles the holder to unlimited lifetime reproduction privileges and free updates.

Thirdly, we recruit and train instructors to use these materials. All courses come with a Grading Key, Certificate of Achievement, and formal proposal for implementation. Twenty-six Regional Directors in thirteen states are available for consultation and training in addition to special workshops and seminars.

Fourthly, we are translating all our material into Spanish as well as English with most courses, including the Children’s Edition, already translated.

As a curriculum-based program, NLBM is not in competition with prison ministries. We view our material as a “tool” you will want in your tool chest. It is not the “only” tool but an important one. Of course, we are delighted to see the NLB curriculum increasingly used in a widening variety of ways.
